BOTANICAL EUPHORIA

"Botanical Euphoria" for 10TEN magazine.

Model: Kärt / FashionTeam
Photographer: Sara Lehtomaa
Assistant: Jenny Ekholm

I shot this series together with amazingly talented designer Ana Santirso and stunning Kärt last summer in August at the Turku University Botanical Garden. And I have been waiting for ages to publish these but had to wait because of the feature in 10TEN magazine (not complaining). But now they're finally out and I can share the fruits of our labor! If you're interested you can preview the whole issue here (link). I will surely be working with Ana in the future as well and we've actually already been discussing a project, which will take place here in Turku once the snow has melted (which is sadly not anytime soon). I absolutely love the girliness of her designs and the sense for detail that she has. And by the way, if you're looking for a dress and happen to be in Turku I recommend you to visit her store. They're currently having a -50% discount on all party and bridal dresses. I actually wish I was getting married just for the sake of getting to buy one of their dresses...

CELESTIAL

Model: Kaisa Löyskä
Photographer: Sara Lehtomaa

These photos are actually way back from last fall when Kaisa was visiting me here in Turku. We decided to head to Turku Cathedral because I wanted to shoot these two dresses (both thrift store finds), and it was far too cold for us to do that outside. As it turns out, they ended up fitting the church setting perfectly. My personal favorite is the first photo because of the flattering light and the position of Kaisa's hands and head. I like the fact that there's such a varying set of lighting in this series, though. It's quite literally different in each photo. That's always good.

How are you guys doing? I myself have been living quite a stress-free January, much more so than usually. It's probably all thanks to the break, so I guess I should be back to normal shortly haha. I've been spending a lot of time with friends - cooking, watching movies and other niceness. I've especially enjoyed the cooking part and I'm actually quite proud of us in regards to what we've managed to produce. Should probably start calling us 'chef squad' or something along those lines (totally deserved, I assure you). I've also been spending time alone inside four walls, hiding away from the coldness, watching this TV series called Black Sails (it's a pirate thing). Warmly recommend it to pretty much anyone. Btw, I'd be super happy if you guys could recommend me some new series to watch (I am a very greedy consumer of them and have the habit of watching at least half a season in one day). Thanks in advance!

BOYLYMIA

Fringe Jacket - BoylyMia*,  Blouse - Zara,  Pants - Gina Tricot,  Shoes - River Island

FINALLY I found myself the perfect fringe jacket! I was lucky to find my way to this beauty through my collaboration with BoylyMia, a budding women's fashion online store. They describe themselves as exhibiting "not only the unisex fashion clothing style, but also an independent tolerant mindset". I'm more than happy to support such values and wish the best for them. They've got some really cool designs and I recommend you with all my heart to take a look at their website (here).

This fringe faux leather jacket was one of my absolute favorites. And I have to admit I was very surprised to find that the size was perfect (I've previously had bad experiences with online stores regarding size so this was a relief) (and in case you're wondering, I'm wearing a size S). So you won't have to worry about the clothes not being true to size. That's a great plus. Also, it's very beautifully made, and as a matter of fact I found no faults at all in the jacket. So I would like to assume that the rest of their clothes are of as good quality as the item that I received. All in all I have only good things to say about BoylyMia as my experience was very positive. I encourage you to check them out and order an item or two if you find something that you like!

TIME TRAVELING

Photos: Eino Ailoranta (2nd photo) & me.

Time traveling is one of my favorite things to do. Ever since I was a little child I've had the habit of flicking through old photo albums exploring the past. I can't put my finger on what exactly it is that is so charming about it. Sometimes it's just a reminder to keep on creating new memories that you will be happy to keep - living life in a way that wont leave you with the sour taste of regret in your mouth. It also reminds you of the past you, who, perhaps, was very different from the present day you. In other words, it reminds you of your personal progress and might encourage you to go even further on that path.

These photos are not even that old, only a couple of years or so, but still, even in that small of a period of time I know that I've changed a lot. Mostly in a good way. I can remember the uncertainty that largely controlled my life, my actions. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted from life, who I wanted to spend it with, or even what I wanted to be like myself. Photography was one of the only things that I was a hundred percent sure about (ironically that has changed now that I've experienced the not so pleasant reality of the fashion world, but that's ok, because, after all, there are a million ways to pursue a career in photography). I had also just met the love of my life (however cheesy that may sound), which brought with it a tsunami of new emotions and thoughts that were completely new to me. That also caused some uncertainty, simply because I didn't know how to assess it all. I only knew that being with him felt right. And so I stuck to that feeling. Today he is part of my family and I couldn't imagine life without him.

Eino (in the photos above) is a friend of mine, who has been living in Helsinki for a couple of years now. We haven't really kept in touch after he moved, which is kind of sad, although I know we've both been occupied with studies and life in general. When he lived here in Turku we got to know each other through a mutual friend and started hanging out more thanks to our common interest in photography. It was nice having a buddy with whom you could do one of your favorite things. And in general I think that photography is always better when shared with someone - be it a model or a fellow photographer. Luckily there are plenty of people who are into that stuff nowadays, with photography becoming such a big thing and all. Any photographers out there (by any chance located in Turku)? I'd love to hear about your experiences of photography or any thoughts relating to the subject, so do leave a comment!
